Coinciding with a cinematic re-release of the 4K restoration of Tokyo Story (OK, I admit I prefer The Flavour of Green Tea over Rice but anyway), and the 120th anniversary of his birth, September heralds a season of films by Ozu at the BFI Southbank: A Family Affair: The Films of Yasujiro Ozu.
While not a complete retrospective, it touches on his career from earlier silent films to his final films.
See the BFI catelogue for a film listing of films to be shown, including influences and those influenced by Ozu here.
Long-time anime dilettante and general lover of cinema. Obsessive re-watcher of 'stuff'. Has issues with dubs. Will go off on tangents about other things that no one else cares about but is sadly passionate about. (Also, parentheses come as standard.) Looks curiously like Jo Shishido, hamster cheeks and all.
