New Gundam Requiem for Vengeance trailer reveals Oct 17th release date

Written by Ross Locksley on 26 Jul 2024

The latest Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance trailer has landed, and provides a release date of October 17th, making October quite the busy month for Netflix with Ranma due to arrive a few weeks earlier.

What we've seen in the trailer looks well-rendered, but it feels like it's in the same uncanny valley as Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, with awkward and unnatural movement of the human characters. That's not to say we're pre-judging, early CGI cartoons like Reboot and Beast Wars hold up because of the quality of the stories told, so hopefully the same will prove true here.

The shots of the Gundam are clearer here, and it certainly looks imposing and weighty. Fingers crossed this one is a pleasant surprise.

As an aside, the series will also be making an appearance in online shooter Fortnite, where teams will fight to activate their respective mecha to unleash a devastating attack. At least it makes a sensible use of the IP.

Why not have a read of mecha maestro Ollie Barder's take on Forbes? After all, nobody knows Gundam like he does!

About Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance:

In the year Universal Century 0079, a state of war began when the Principality of Zeon declared its independence from the Earth Federation government. In the war's opening stages, the Zeon forces maintained an advantage thanks to the effectiveness of their new weapon, the mobile suit. However, they lacked the fighting strength to fully conquer Earth, and the war became a stalemate.

Eleven months after the outbreak of war, a base in Zeon-occupied Eastern Europe is captured by the Federation Forces. A Zeon composite battalion is sent to recapture the base, and among its members are Solari and her Red Wolf Squadron, a mobile suit team that has only just arrived from space.
