Leviathan trailer lands on Netflix

Written by Ross Locksley on 10 Sep 2024

Netflix have released an official teaser trailer for their upcoming Leviathan series, which is coming in 2025. Featuring an epic score, flying whales and a lot of smooth CGI, the anime is being created by Qubix (Star Wars: Visions) and Orange (Land of the Lustrous) with original songs by Spirited Away's Joe Hisaishi backed by a soundtrack from Toda & Kazuma Jinnouchi (Suzume). Safe to say the production values are impressive all around.

The film is based on the 2009 book Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld, which was the first in a trilogy. According to a post on the author's webste, Netflix is committed to telling the story across the entire trilogy. Both author and the book's illustrator, Keith Thompson were heavily involved in production.

Synopsis:
In 1914, on the eve of war, a fugitive prince and a girl in disguise meet aboard a bioengineered airship, the HMS Leviathan, and change the course of history.
