Apple renews Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for Season 2

Written by Ross Locksley on 12 Apr 2024

Apple TV+ has confirmed the renewal of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. We gave it a strong 8/10 in our review, impressed by the ability of the story to bring together events from two different eras and weave them into the Legendary monsterverse, with younger incarnations of John Goodman's Bill Randa (Kong: Skull Island) and the inclusion of Apex Cybernetics which would play into the Godzilla vs Kong film.

“‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt and the incredibly gifted and talented cast and creative team. We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse.”

- Morgan Wandell, Head of International Development, Apple TV+

While we don't know which direction any subsequent spin-offs may take, there's no end of possibilities within the vast Godzilla universe, be it a focus on any one Monarch team, kaiju (Mothra series anyone?) or even a counterpoint using the Apex Cybernetics company, we can only hope Apple and Legendary do the rich heritage of the big lizard and his chums justice.
